Spooky Limericks for Halloween - One of Edward Lear's, One of my Very Own

Better (almost) late than never. 🎃 If you want a quick - and free! - Halloween crafts idea, you are at the right place! Time for some Halloween zines!

It might be just me, but autumn in the ESL teacher universe is by far the busiest time of the year. It's not even the workload, rather all the new groups and students - all starting at the same time. Walking students into comfort and routine is always an emotionally demanding task. Is it just me? Maybe I just care too much.

If you want a teacher (potentially) caring too much, contact me here for private lessons.:)

But anyway, this is not why we are here today. We are here for Halloween, and because I made some new Halloween-themed zines. I'm here to share them! Download them and do crafts on the spookiest night of the whole year!

a girl is showing her zines. she is wearing a white jumper. She is surrounded by drawn crafts materials, such as a pair of scissors, a bottle of glue, a roll of tape, a glue stick, and a sheet of paper

And let's recap!

What's a Limerick again? Limericks are nonsensical poems. More elaborately:

And what are zines? Zines can take many forms, and they are almost always hand-made booklets, varying from fairly complex to being a single sheet of paper. My zines belong to this very last category.

So what will you need to make Halloween zines? Well, firstly, download my zines (scroll down!)

Secondly, these tools:

And how can you fold a zine...when it's a single A4-size sheet? Like this!

1.) Fold it as the picture above shows.

2.) Cut just the middle.

3.) Turn it into a little booklet as the picture below shows.

4.) Voilá!

I have brought two zines for you today. Both limericks

Firstly, an Edward Lear one (don't come for me; he is in the public domain, as far as I'm concerned!)

And one that's my very own making - shabby, Halloween-inspired. (Also don't come for me. I researched limericks deeply, so I do understand how the metre is supposed to go - I just decided to occasionally take....a different route. But if you are curious where I diverged, where I went haywire, download and dissect it!)

Both were illustrated by me - using a little guy called Jamie, whom you can check out here:

And what can you expect illustration-wise? Nothing professional, just something fun. Something like these bits:

Halloween illustrations, cartoon-style. The picture shows spirits, ghosts, and Halloween.

This is all for today - but I hope to be back soon! With the summary of an excellent reading year...and maybe something even more interesting? (And what could be more interesting than an excellent reading year?)

I'm afraid we'll need to end on this very spooky note...

Till next time!
